Oropendola Waterfall and Las Pailas Trail is a great cocktail that unites the Costa Rican country life, the intense volcanic manifestations, and the diversity of different ecosystems in a rather small area.
You will start this tour at the Adventure Center of Hacienda Guachipelin, one of the symbols in the history of Guanacaste province.
Hacienda Guachipelín is quite massive, with 3,460 acres (1,400 hectares), three rivers travel across the ranch: Rio Blanco, Colorado and Negro.
The ranch has preserved vast areas of dry forest that are forested with indigenous species. Its gentle topography, hot springs, waterfalls, and distinct ecosystems make Guachipelin one of the must-visit spots of the North Pacific region of Costa Rica.
And it is the perfect place for horseback riding! You will blend the wild nature of Rincon de la Vieja with the cowboys’ life and sensations.
The horses utilized for the tour are well treated and easy to ride. They know the path, and you should only know some basics commands to love every minute of this tour.
If you are a skilled rider and would like a horse a bit more vigorous, please ask for it at the time of reservation.
You will start the tour in the stables, where your licensed tour guides will provide you with a helmet and a safety briefing with all the required guidelines.
You will then ride the first forty-five minutes towards the National Park
Las Pailas trail dramatically demonstrates the incredible power of the Rincon de la Vieja volcano, the biggest and most active volcano in the Guanacaste Mountain Range.
This trail starts in a patch of dry tropical forest with huge trees and a waterfall. Look out for possible wildlife sightings. In this park, there are three species of monkeys, sloths, coatimundis, agoutis, and more than 350 species of birds.
Las pailas is 2.5 miles (3.5 kilometers) you will go across minor rivers and see, amid the forest steaming cracks and boiling ponds.
You will have a bilingual certified guide that will reveal to you many of the secrets and facts of the natural history of this region.
As you complete your trek, a swim in a pure water pond under a waterfall seems to be a perfect ending.
You will go for a short walk to The Oropendola, that falls 82 feet (25 meters) on a turquoise water pool shaded by huge rocks.
The landscape is breathtaking, and you will enjoy the unplugging feeling of laying under the sun with a waterfall nearby.
The entrance to the park is not included in the price.
