The Amphibians and Reptiles night tour is an excellent opportunity to delight in a dimension that used to be only experienced by the natives of these regions a long time ago.
The magic of the rainforest in the daytime, where the luscious vegetation shines and colorful birds and butterflies are everywhere, turns into a different realm as the sun comes down. It becomes mysterious and intriguing.
Animals move to their caves, branches, and hidden homes, and other creatures start their frantic activities.
The Amphibians and Reptiles Tour takes place at Greentique Wildlife Refuge a live research laboratory run by a biologist, expert in the abundant species of amphibians in the region.
The tour starts at dusk and goes for the next hour and a half in a walk where you will live the transformation of the jungle in a live concert of different sounds that the abundant frogs create. You will walk under the forms of the trees, palms, and bushes, and if the night is clear, a beautiful dark sky filled with stars.
As you enter the gardens at this time in the evening, you will appreciate the activity of frogs, toads, insects, reptiles and, if lucky some of the night mammals in the region.
Walking through a zone where there are several small water ponds you will discover some of the 15 species of amphibians in Manuel Antonio.
This area is mainly designed for the comfort and convenience for the reproduction of these small but rather bright creatures.
You will see frogs in the most surprising colors and sizes. From the famous red-eyed frogs to tiny golden colored ones, you will witness their mating, eggs, and tadpoles in this unforgettable experience in the rainforest.
You will learn about the stages of growth of the frogs guided by a local naturalist that knows all their natural history, habitats, and interactions.
This is a great chance to take video and fantastic pictures. However, we recommend you bring a light tripod not to jeopardize the animal’s sight capacity with sudden lights of the flash.
Although the guides are skilled in providing light for easy night shooting, it’s essential to come prepared, especially if you are into photography.
At the end of the tour, you will have the opportunity of a question and answer session to learn more about these exotic species.
