Your rafting tour on the Sarapiquí River (class II and III) will begin when your driver and transportation pick you up at your hotel and take you through the lush plains of San Carlos in the northern area of Costa Rica.
You will pass through some picturesque villages and the country’s most productive soils, until you reach the town of La Virgen, where your vehicle will detour to the edge of the river where your adventure begins.
Once there, your guides will give you the necessary equipment and a safety talk; you will also have a water practice in which your guide will teach you the commands and instructions on how and when to use your body and your paddle, as well as the best place for you on the inflatable raft.
The Sarapiquí River, born in the nearby mountains, travels through lush plains, fertile farming areas, and dense gallery rainforests. These are characterized by their huge vines on giant trees in a landscape that can only be seen from the river.
This region is home to three species of monkeys, two types of sloths, green iguanas, several kinds of toucans and hummingbirds. As well as small poison frogs, American crocodiles and caimans, river turtles and various types of herons and egrets.
This fantastic environment makes the Sarapiquí River an ideal place for rafting, especially with class II and III rapids that will give you the respite to enjoy the scenery. They are also excellent for beginners and families with children.
However, when the rapids arrive, with names like “El cañón”, “Confusión” and “Fuerza Aérea”, you will feel like the old explorers surrounded by jungle.
As you progress through the trip, the rapids will soften and you will have time to jump into the water and float on the river.
At the end of the Sarapiquí River rafting tour (Class II and III), you will arrive at a local family property where you will be able to shower and change to enjoy a delicious typical lunch made with fresh ingredients from the region.
The afternoon tour does not include lunch, just a fruit stop.
