The name of “Mala Noche” comes from a group of chicleros in the early XX Century, (Men who drained the sap of rubber trees) that spent some nights camping in the area and called it “bad night” due to the distinctive amount of bugs in the surrounding to the waterfalls.
Now, in the different trails to the waterfall, you may still see some of the old trees, accompanying pastures and secondary growth forest that up to this day are home to white-tailed deer, howler monkeys, coatimundis, agoutis, and shy wildcats such as margays or ocelots.
You may observe Blue-crowned Motmots, trogons, several species of hummingbirds, flycatchers, and many more among the 270 species in the area of Nosara.
In the rainy period, the best time to see the Mala Noche Waterfalls, it offers a fantastic swimming hole, and luscious trees surround it.
Your tour starts as you enjoy a beautiful trail following the river on a lot with a vibrant garden.
Your tour guide will share information concerning ornamental and medicinal plants.
Following a 45 minutes hike, you reach the waterfall where you can refresh in the fresh river water, relax by the pool or take a swim, or relax by the creek.
Climb up the rocks to discover second and third smaller waterfalls.
This experience is available through the rainy season, between June and December, and the first three months of the dry season.
