Located in the town of Venado, these caves were formed 15 – 20 million years ago and were discovered by the Malekus aborigines and are made up of limestone, stalactites, stalagmites and corals. The cavern consists of 12 rooms of various sizes and most of the cavern is traversed by shallow streams that clean the guano from the bottom, thus creating a cleaner type of cavern. Exploring the caverns is an exciting adventure for those who don’t suffer from claustrophobia and don’t mind getting a little wet. You can climb walls or “crawl” through the holes, as well as observe bats, spiders and marine fossils. A helmet will protect your head from rocks and flashlights will illuminate a mysterious path.
