This birding tour in the Rainforest Adventures park happens right next to the Braulio Carrillo National Park. Rainforest Adventures park is an extensive 1200 acres (475-hectare) private reserve on the Caribbean side of Costa Rica.
Situated just 50 miles (80 kilometers) from San Jose city, it shares a 10-kilometer boundary with Braulio Carrillo creating a zone that buffers the impact of pastures and agriculture.
Hence, several of the species of the primary rainforests and the ones adapted to the open areas can be seen in this magnificent park.
There is extraordinary diversity in quantity as much as in quality.
You will be on a walking trail as on the aerial tram; consequently, you will spot birds that live in the bottom of the forest, as much as birds that live closer to the sky, upon the tops.
And of course, as any bird watcher will confirm there is a magic in birding, where ever you are. Either in the middle of a city or either in a reserve away from it all. However, bird watching in a genuine primary forest will give you a glimpse not only of the magnificent birds, the mixed flocks, nests, and other wonders, but also of all the other creatures that live in the Costa Rican nature.
In the park, there are three species of monkeys, two species of sloths, coatimundis, agoutis, Baird’s tapirs, and anteaters, among other hundreds of species.
You will take a guided walk with a passionate birding expert. The tour guides in Rainforest Adventures park are avid birdwatchers, and lots of them spend their free time with their binoculars in hand, looking for the rare species of this habitat.
They know the ecosystem very well. So, in this part of the trip, you may be able to spot: wood quails, tanagers, anthrushes, antbirds, and even unique species such as the Bare Necked Umbrellabird, White-collared Manakin, Fasciated Antshrike, or the Nightingale Wren.
After spending quite a long time spotting the birds from the forest floor or the hanging bridge over the Molinete river, you will go for the second and most exciting ride on the aerial tram.
The aerial tram is an engineering challenge, and your guide will tell you all about it and how it aimed from the very start to have as little impact as possible.
You will be on a six passengers gondola, while you guide points whatever comes up, you may get to see Great Potoo, Snowy Cotinga, Long-tailed Tyrant, Crested Guan, Bat Falcon, Green Ibis, and Sunbittern. As well as kites, hawks, and eagles.
