The Hanging Bridges self-guided walk is an excellent opportunity to see the tropical rainforest in all its splendor and from all possible perspectives.
The Hanging Bridges self-guided walk is done in a 240-hectare (600-acre) rainforest reserve of amazing tropical forests, and intense biodiversity.
The hike is along a 1.9 mile (3.1 kilometers) paved trail, with six suspension bridges and nine fixed bridges, and has a maximum tilt grade of 7 degrees, making it easy for any traveler to enjoy.
The Hanging Bridges self-guided walk is an experience for the senses, an activity of discovery, and we recommend you take your time, go slowly and quietly for nature to show itself.
The rainforest of Arenal Mystic Park is a complex ecosystem, full of symbiotic relationships that you will be able to see in all its niches in this walk.
Pay attention to the tiny as well as the enormous; a forest is a magical place if you pay attention to details.
We recommend you take the map that will give you the information center and read its instructions and guide.
On the other hand, open your senses and walk slowly. Listen to the birds, the cicadas, the roars of the howler monkeys, contemplate from the bridges the infinite shapes of plants and trees, the perfect symmetry of the tree ferns, and the overwhelming abundance of plants in each emerging branch.
Pay attention, and a continuous squawk may lead you to the vision of the colorful keel-billed toucan perched on a nearby giant, or, if you’re lucky, the violent movement of the branches will show you a troop of monkeys passing by.
Take your time as well to enjoy the running waterfall wholly surrounded by the jungle. The sensations of adventure in the wilderness are magnificent.
The suspension bridges are made of metal, broad and robust, the railings are high enough, and although movement can be perceived when other people enter, you will always feel safe.
