Placed where the monkeys and the turtles meet, the Nosara Biological Reserve is a 90-acres (35 hectares) private nature sanctuary on the southern area of the Nosara River.
Paths take you through an extensive mangrove and pass a dry tropical forest, one of the world’s more precious and endangered habitats.
You can always find the yellow mantled howler monkeys and green and black iguanas on the trees.
The preserve is also home to coatimundis, agoutis, armadillos, raccoons, snakes, crocodiles and caymans, and other reptiles, and even white-tailed deer and wild felines.
There are more than 270 bird species in these forests. You may observe seabirds, egrets, herons, toucans, motmots, and the beautiful long-tailed Manakins.
The way into the Nosara Biological Reserve is at Hotel Lagarta Lodge, which is the manager of the preserved area.
Your tour will start as you meet your guide and group at the entrance of the Nosara Biological Reserve. You will start walking by the mangroves part and into the tropical dry forest.
The first part is a realm of huge surreal roots, mud in the low tide and water in the high tide, and a lot of birds. You may also see American crocodiles, caimans, iguanas and multicolored crabs.
Afterward, you will enter in the dry tropical forest, that in the sunny season is a brown and yellow realm with a great abundance of wildlife and in the rainy period is a stunning and luscious rainforest.
